Cat Reports 21 Percent Global Sales Drop for 3-Month Period

Caterpillar's 8-K filing today reports a  21 percent drop in worldwide total machine retail sales for the rolling three-month period ending in February, following a 15 percent decline for the three months ending in January.

CAT says retail sales to resource industries worldwide plummeted 42 percent during the three-month rolling period of December 2015, January 2016 and February 2016, compared to a 35 percent drop in the prior three months.

Within the energy and transportation segment, total sales fell 39 percent, with a 60 percent plunge in transportation products and 36 percent declines in oil, gas, and power generation products.
