Reuters reports Caterpillar will close its Work Tools complex in Waco, Texas by the end of the year. Those operation will be transferred to a Cat facility in Wamego, Kansas. The closing does not involve the Caterpillar distribution center in Waco. 200 jobs will be cut.
Cat is also closing a demostration center in Panama and is also considering shifting engine manufacturing at its Progress Rail Services unit in La Grange, Ill., to Winston-Salem, N.C. If that decision is made, more than 600 jobs will be lost.
Caterpillar continues to undergo a reorganization announced in 2015 that it said would slash between 5,000 and 10,000 jobs by this year, according to information on the company website.
