Model 721D and its tool-carrier brother, the 721DXT, feature a six-cylinder Case diesel that delivers 181 horsepower, with horsepower boosts on demand up to 195. With a bucket just short of 1 cubic yard, the machine develops 29,700 pounds of breakout force. The cube-shaped cooling module common to the D Series is mounted in the middle of the machine, which Case says improves air cleanliness and cooling efficiency.
