The Texas Transportation Commission has awarded a $17,533,233 contract to Austin Bridge & Road for the construction of a new two-lane bridge on SH 146 in Galveston County. This Hurricane Evacuation Routes and Federal Demonstration project provides for the construction of a new two-lane bridge on the west side of the existing SH 146 bridge, just south of FM 517 to the south of Dickinson Bayou in Texas City. A significant feature of this project will be the construction of a temporary trestle type bridge from which the new structure can be built with minimum disturbance to the delicate area wetlands. Construction on the contract will begin May 2007 and is expected to be completed in June 2009.
