Atlanta Fights Aging Sewers

March 22, 2012

Atlanta and surrounding counties are tackling sewer infrastructure problems, but the fight will cost area residents millions in additional taxes. Plus, says a report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, sewer managers could face federal fines if systems fail.

According to the report, Atlanta and DeKalb County have been given federal deadlines for cutting sewer spills. Atlanta has spent more than $1.6 billion so far. Gwinnett, Cobb, Fulton and Cherokee counties are investing in a variety of programs, as well.
