Katie Chimelewski has been named director of safety and certification for The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). In the newly created position, she will be responsible for managing operations and expanding industry participation in the American National Standards Institute-accredited Safety Certification for Transportation Project ProfessionalsTM (SCTPP) program.
The SCTPP aims to boost the hazard awareness and risk management skills of all transportation project professionals who are in positions of influence—from project inception through completion—to cause a major decline in safety incidents, according to ARTBA.
Chimelewski will administer and execute several federal safety-related training contracts, including the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse.
Chimelewski spent 13 years with CSX, where she held positions in community affairs, project impact mitigation, public safety, media relations, and philanthropy. As director of community affairs and safety, she led a successful campaign to help educate the public on highway-rail intersection safety. She also served as a director on the Operation Lifesaver board, helping drive unique safety training and messaging aimed at motorists and pedestrian safety on or around railroad tracks.
