337 Preventable Deaths in 2014

March 18, 2016

Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction workers and fall prevention safety standards violations are at the top of OSHA's list of citations.

With that in mind, OSHA is readying its annual 'National Fall Prevention Stand Down', a two week fall prevention event geared for employers to talk directly with employees about fall hazards and fall protection.

For the fourth year, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration  is planning its two-week fall prevention awareness campaign called "National Fall Prevention Stand Down." It will take place from May 4-15, 2015, and OSHA is calling on all employers to take time out to address fall prevention issues with their workers. Participants will earn a Certificate of Participation signed by Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez following the Stand-Down.

Last year, the Stand-Down reached more than one million workers, and this year OSHA has set a goal to reach 3 million workers. That equals 40 percent of the construction workforce in the country.
