Volvo ECR58D, ECR88D Compact Excavators

July 9, 2013

Volvo has introduced two short-swing radius excavators, the ECR58D and ECR88D, with Tier 4-Final engines.

Both models feature automatic, two-speed travel for enhanced traction, and hydraulic travel pedals for easy and accurate track control, the company says. A narrow body design and centrally positioned boom keeps the superstructure compact so that the rear of the excavator swings within its track shoe, allowing operators to work closer to objects. The short front/rear radius also allows work within a single highway lane of traffic.

The ECR58D has a 50-horsepower engine, while that ECR88D comes with a 58-horsepower engine. Volvo says the units' exhaust aftertreatment system offers seamless operation even during regeneration. An auto-idling system reduces engine speed when the controls are inactive for a period of time that can be pre-set by the operator (between 3 and 20 seconds).
