A barge on the Hudson River broke loose Sunday, leading the New York Thruway Authority to withhold $1 million a month until safety improvements appear to be working, according to The Journal News.

A barge on the Hudson River broke loose Sunday, leading the New York Thruway Authority to withhold $1 million a month until safety improvements appear to be working, according to The Journal NewsThis loose barge was the third at the Tappan Zee site since September.

Tappan Zee Contractors is in the process of installing GPS tracking devices on its equipment and has switched to stronger mooring lines for the barges.
