As compared to other oscillating rollers, the new 58-inch-wide Sakai SW652ND asphalt compactor oscillates or vibrates on both drums simultaneously. A double-drum oscillating roller that doubles as a double-drum vibratory roller, the SW652ND controls each drum independently and achieves the required compaction faster on both thin and thick lift asphalt applications. The model’s vibration mode is typical of other Sakai compactors, offering a high frequency of 4,020 vibrations per minute. The more gentle oscillation mode offers a new drum motion designed to neither over-compact the mat nor fracture the aggregate, which is especially useful while compacting thin lifts and in gaining density at the joints and during finish passes.
Sakai America’s 300 Series rollers include three double-drum steel and two steel/pneumatic-tire combinations, all with high frequencies of 4,000 vibrations per minute.
Sakai’s high impact, low vibration rammers – the RS45 at 110 pounds, RS65 at 160 pounds and RS75 at 180 pounds – are powered by Honda gasoline engines ranging in horsepower from 2.3 to 2.8.
