The National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) entered an agreement with the National Equipment Register (NER) to cut the cost to NUCA members trying to combat the growing problem of heavy-equipment theft. NER's HELPtech allows equipment owners to register machines online for a few dollars per item per year. NUCA members will get a 20 percent reduction in registration fees.

If a machine is stolen, its owner or responding law enforcement officials can report it to NER. Then law officers, used-equipment buyers, and customs agents can check NER stolen-vehicle roles if they encounter a suspect machine.

You can find out more about NER or register vehicles at www.NERusa.com.
