Liebherr R 9150 hydraulic mining excavator is for pairing with 50-ton dump trucks. The R 9150, which replaces the Liebherr R 984 C, has an operating weight of 280,000 pounds in its backhoe configuration and 286,600 pounds as a shovel. Bucket capacity for both the backhoe and shovel is 10.5 cubic yards, assuming densities of 3,000 pounds per cubic yard. The models use a Liebherr 12-cylinder engine, rated at 757 horsepower, which is designed to operate efficiently at extreme temperatures. According to Liebherr, the R 9150 combines large buckets with high digging forces and optimal cycle times to deliver high production.
