The L 586 2plus2 wheel loader has a tipping load of 45,040 pounds, making it the largest hydrostatically driven wheel loader in the world, Liebherr Construction Equipment says. Trading on its 25 years of experience building hydrostatic wheel loaders, the company claims its drive systems reduce fuel consumption by as much as 25 percent, compared to mechanical-drive machines; reduce tire wear by 25 percent; and experience virtually no brake wear. It is powered by a Tier III 340-horsepower (at 1,800 rpm) Liebherr D 936 L engine. Estimated list price: $400,000 to $450,000.
