Two production-class crawler excavators, the R480LC-9A and R520LC-9A, use the Cummins Tier 4-Interim QSX11.9 engine, which has a high power-to-weight ratio and high torque rise, according to Hyundai. New engine-related features include a variable-speed cooling fan, two-stage automatic deceleration system, and a fuel-saving economy mode. Hydraulic refinement increases controllability, says Hyundai, and overall durability gets a boost with a stronger cab structure (with increased glass area for enhanced visibility) and modified upper and lower frames. Operator amenities include heated seats, advanced climate control, added audio capability, and an optional Smart Key that allows push-button starting.
