Three new Hyundai hydraulic excavators—R140LC-9A, R160LC-9A and R180LC-9A—have operating weights, respectively, of 30,820, 39,240, and 41,560 pounds. All are powered with the Perkins 1204E engine that meets Tier 4-Interim emission standards and is rated at 116 horsepower for the smallest model and at 128 horsepower for the two larger. Three engine modes—power, standard, and economy—and two work modes—dig and attachment—allow operators to adjust machine performance to the application, says Hyundai. A variable-speed fan clutch and two-stage auto-decel system are designed to conserve fuel.

Hydraulic-system refinement includes an improved main valve, new boom/swing-priority feature designed to automatically provide optimum speed in these systems, new power-boost feature, and improved oil-regeneration systems for the boom-down and arm-in circuits. One-pump or two-pump flow to attachments can be selected through the monitor. The company’s CAPO (Computer Aided Power Optimization) system interfaces with sensors in the hydraulic system and with engine electronics to provide, says Hyundai, optimum engine power and hydraulic flow.

Newly designed cabs are larger and feature increased structural strength, added visibility, suspension seat with heat (air-ride seat is available), new control consoles integrated with the seat and height-adjustable, restyled joystick controllers, enhanced climate-control system, added audio capabilities, and an available Smart Key system that allows one-button starting. A new 7-inch LCD touch screen, says Hyundai, allows the operator to set machine operating parameters, view images from the standard rearview camera system, and enable a password-protected anti-theft system. The new models also incorporate the company’s Hi-mate (Remote Management System) telematics system.
