The House introduced a bill that would raised the federal gas tax by 15 cents per gallon—from 18.4 cents per gallon to 33.4 cents per gallon, the Washington Post reports. The tax on diesel would rise to 42.8 cents per gallon.
Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) introduced the bill on Wednesday, indicating that it could raise approximately $170 billion for transportation funding over the next 10 years. The tax hike would be phased in over a three-year period.
