Hitachi EH5000AC-3 rigid-frame off-road truck has the company’s new AC drive system. The unit is Hitachi’s largest and is powered by a Cummins QSKTTA60-CE diesel rated at 2,850 horsepower at 1,900 rpm. The new AC drive system has an advanced propulsion technology, Hitachi says, that features slip control for traction and for grip, pitch control, and skid control. The new system has sensors on all four wheels and incorporates additional feedback from the drive system, front wheels, steering, suspension, and other system to enhance the slip/slide control feature, it says. Pitch and skid control are new features. The truck has all-hydraulic actuated braking system, and a new Hitachi system monitor provides display information and diagnostics of all onboard systems and controls.
