The new F-Series engines from Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT)—using an inline, four-cylinder design and having a displacement of 3.2 liters—are designed specifically for off-road and stationary applications. Meeting Tier-3 emissions standards and available in horsepower ratings of 74, 82 and 87 (at 2,500 rpm), the new F-Series models feature two valves per cylinder, cast-iron cylinder head, mechanical fuel-injection and structural or non-structural architecture. The new engines also may be configured with either an internal or an external EGR (exhaust-gas-recirculation) system, and, further, as either turbocharged or turbocharged-and-aftercooled. Front and side power-take-offs are available, and according to FPT, the new engines’ “robust design guarantees high reliability with over 8,000 hours before major engine overhaul.”
