First in a new family of articulated dump trucks, DA40 is powered by a 6-cylinder Tier 4-I diesel with 500 gross horsepower at 2100 rpm. The DA40 replaces the MT41 with 10 percent more engine power and 22 percent more gross torque: 1,750 lb.-ft. at 1,300 rpm. Fuel consumption is reduced by 8 percent. A new transmission has eight forward and four reverse speeds. Top speed has been increased to 36 mph, and payload is 31.0 cubic yards, 15 percent more than its predecessor. Permanent 6-wheel drive includes a free-swinging rear tandem bogie and special articulation system.
