Ditch Witch RT120 Quad Trencher

Sept. 5, 2013

Ditch Witch calls its four-wheel-drive RT120 Quad a utility tractor with the power, heavy-duty frame and traction necessary for long installations of large-diameter pipe on the most challenging jobsites.

The unit is built around a heavy-duty undercarriage designed to withstand punishing ground conditions, the company says.

Its frame is also engineered to tilt, enabling the RT120 Quad to dig a vertical trench on uneven ground.

The machine rides on a Quad Track System for stability and traction. Each track frame weighs 1,500 pounds (including track), giving the RT120 Quad a lower center of gravity for increased stability and drawbar pull, while the chevron-pattern tracks provide traction in wet conditions and on slopes.

The RT120 Quad also features a ground clearance of 15.5 inches, enabling the machine to work around bar ditches, creek beds and uneven terrain.

A Tier 4-Interim 121-horsepower Deutz diesel engine is coupled with a three-speed, shift-on-the-fly transmission that enables the operator to quickly adjust to changing ground conditions.

Standard rear steering gives the RT120 Quad a tight turn radius. A cruise-control system senses engine load and automatically adjusts ground drive speed for consistent production, Ditch Witch says.

The RT120 Quad can use a number of hydrostatic attachments for a range of underground construction tasks, including a combination trencher/plow attachment, an individual plow, two front-mounted utility backhoes, a reel carrier, two types of saws, and two types of trencher attachments.

The plow attachment features heavy-duty lift arms. A backfill blade is optional equipment.

Inside the cab, a dial control design allows the operator precise control of the ground drive speed and attachments. The operator’s station has a color LCD monitor that provides relevant engine information and diagnostics.

Removable side panels provide access to service areas, all engine service points are located on the left side, and the oil level can be checked without opening the engine.

The electronically controlled pump requires minimal maintenance, as there are no cables to adjust.
