Ground was recently broken on Diggerland USA, the first construction-themed amusement park in the United States. Located on a 14-acre site in West Berlin, N.J., the park will be located behind the Sahara Sam’s Oasis indoor/outdoor water park.
At the March 11 groundbreaking ceremony, city officials and company management broke ground next to the a shovel on the end of an 18,000 pound 4CX backhoe operated by Brandon Moore, the general manager for both the water park and what will be Diggerland USA.
The 4CX, supplied by local JCB dealer Farm-Rite, is one of many pieces of heavy construction equipment that children and their families will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of when the park opens.
SAMBE Construction is overseeing the design and project administration of Diggerland. SAMBE employee Chris Baldwin will assume the director of operations position for the new park. SAMBE was responsible for the construction of Sahara Sam's Oasis, which opened in 2009.
Officials have yet to reveal an official opening date for the park beyond early summer, however, the Diggerland USA website has begun taking birthday party and large group reservations with dates as early as June 14.
