Deadly Fall Stops Stadium Construction

December 17, 2013

A labor court stopped construction at the Arena da Amazonia stadium, in Manaus, Brazil — a site for the 2014 World Cup — after a construction worker died from a 115-foot fall while working on the roofing structure.

The court stated that construction could resume at the site only after construction workers demonstrate that all safety measures are in place. Labor officials were scheduled to evaluate safety measures at the site, which would host four matches next June, including England vs. Italy and United States vs. Portugal.
