The ESD225 air disc brake is now a regular production option on Kenworth, Peterbilt and Volvo trucks and tractors—the first time this or any other air disc product has been available for regular order in North America. Like other modern ADBs, the ESD225 has none of the troubles of early products, Dana says. It offers better high-speed stopping performance than drum brakes, but its more practical benefits for truck users are long life for slide pins, pads and rotors, easy maintenance, resistance to fade on long downgrades, self-adjustment and torque balance.
