GM introduced a new frame and suspension that would boost the Chevy Silverado heavy-duty pickups and GMC Sierra HDs to the top of Class 2 for payload and conventional-hitch towing capacity.
Boxed-steel frames and burly new suspensions push maximum towing capacity of the Sierra 3500HD to 20,000 pounds.
The extension of General Motors' inside-out pickup redesign brings a smooth-shifting six-speed Hydra-matic transmission to GMC and Chevrolet 3/4 and one-ton trucks. A manual transmission mode gives you control of shifts up and down through the gears. The tow-haul mode holds each gear longer during acceleration, and down-shifts automatically to second gear during braking.
