Cat to Close Engine Plant, Mining Service Center

Caterpillar will move operations from its Fountain Inn, S.C. marine engine plant to Georgia and Texas, closing the South Carolina plant and eliminating 510 jobs—380 full time and 130 temporary.

Caterpillar will move operations from its Fountain Inn, S.C. marine engine plant to Georgia and Texas, closing the South Carolina plant and eliminating 510 jobs—380 full time and 130 temporary.

The marine engine operation will move to Griffin, Ga., while the C7 engine assembly line will move to Sequin, Texas. The plant will begin decreasing production in the second quarter with plans to close by the end of the year.

Addionally, Caterpillar Global Mining will be closing a customer service center in Pearisburg, Va., effective July 1. Approximately 50 jobs will be affected, as employee responsibilities will be transferred to dealers.
