Stimulus Revives Delayed Road Projects in Texas

More than $489 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is pouring into the Houston region for transportation work. The one-time infusion will pay for road projects that have been languishing unfunded for years.

It’s about time, said Nikki Fabbro, a Richmond Realtor who fights the daily traffic along FM 359 in Fort Bend County.

“It used to be just Pecan Grove,” she said, ticking off the residential subdivisions that have sprouted along the two-lane road. “Now, you have Pecan Lakes, River’s Edge, Waterside. A ton of growth. Civilization has caught up with us for sure.”

Widening the road has been discussed for years. It’s finally going to happen, with $15 million in stimulus funds.
