Heavy Earthmoving

Komatsu PC2000-8 Excavator

December 1, 2007

Komatsu replaced the twin-engine PC1800 excavator with the single-engine PC2000-8, gaining nearly 50 horsepower and driving a major shift toward simplicity. The 443,000-pound PC2000-8 is powered by a Tier 2, 956-horsepower Komatsu turbo charged diesel. Working modes are designed to match engine speed, pump flow and system pressure to specific applications. A new cab designed for mining shovels offers ample space, lower noise levels, improved air tightness, adjustable air-suspension seat, and better visibility. With a 15.7-cubic-yard bucket, the new machine is designed to load a 100-ton truck in four passes. Estimated list price: $2.1 million.
